Scar Revision

The Scar Revision Journey

From healing to renewed confidence. Discover what to expect throughout the scar revision process and how each stage is tailored to your skin.

Before and after scar revision treatment by Inkmed.INT

Every scar tells a story. It may be the result of surgery, an accident, a burn, a medical procedure or another significant experience.

While some scars gradually become less noticeable with time, others remain visible, textured or discoloured long after the original wound has healed.

Scar revision focuses on improving the appearance of the scar and helping it blend more naturally with the surrounding skin. Depending on the scar, treatment may focus on texture, colour or a combination of both.

At Inkmed.INT, treatment begins with understanding your skin, your scar and what you would like to achieve.

Scar revision is about improvement, not perfection. The aim is to make the scar less noticeable while respecting the natural appearance and healing process of your skin.

Where We Begin

Understand Your Scar

Before treatment begins, it is important to understand the characteristics of the scar. Several factors can influence which treatment approach may be suitable.

  • The type and cause of the scar
  • Its location and size
  • How long the scar has been present
  • Your natural skin tone and pigmentation
  • The texture and depth of the scar
  • Previous treatments or surgeries
  • How the skin has healed

These details help determine which aspects of the scar may benefit from treatment and where the journey should begin.

02
Personalised Planning

Consultation & Assessment

During your consultation, the scar and surrounding skin are carefully assessed. This helps determine which treatment options may be appropriate and what can realistically be achieved.

Your expectations are also an important part of this conversation. Together, this information is used to create a treatment plan suited to your skin and the characteristics of your scar.

03
Creating the Foundation

Preparing the Skin

Timing plays an important role in scar revision. Following surgery, burns or significant injuries, the skin may need time to recover and the scar may need time to mature before treatment is considered.

Starting at the appropriate stage of healing provides a better foundation for the treatments that may follow.

04
Refining the Surface

Improving Texture

Some scars differ from the surrounding skin because of their texture, depth or firmness. When texture is a concern, treatments such as microneedling may form part of the treatment plan where appropriate.

Microneedling creates controlled micro-injuries in the skin to encourage its natural repair processes and support collagen production.

As the skin responds and remodels, the appearance and texture of certain scars may gradually improve.

05
Creating Balance

Restoring Colour

For scars that are lighter or noticeably different in colour from the surrounding skin, medical tattooing or scar camouflage may be considered once the scar is suitable.

Specialised pigments are carefully selected and blended to complement the surrounding skin tone. The aim is not to create a visible tattoo, but to reduce the contrast between the scar and the surrounding skin.

Because natural skin contains different tones and undertones, more than one session may be required to build a subtle and natural-looking result.

Gradual Progress Changes develop as the skin heals and responds to treatment.
Individual Treatment The approach is selected according to the scar and surrounding skin.
Natural Results The focus is on helping the scar blend more naturally with the skin.
06
Giving Skin Time

Healing Between Treatments

Healing is part of the treatment process. After certain procedures, the area may temporarily appear red, sensitive, swollen or different in colour.

The skin needs time to settle before the result of a treatment can be properly assessed. Appointments may therefore be spaced apart to allow sufficient recovery before the next stage is considered.

07
Following the Journey

Reviewing Your Progress

Progress is reviewed throughout the scar revision journey. This allows the treatment plan to be adapted according to how the skin responds.

Some scars may require only a small number of treatments, while more complex scars can require several stages. The final timeline depends on the scar, the treatments used and the skin’s response.

A Personal Journey

Your scar doesn’t need to disappear to make a difference.

Successful scar revision may mean softer texture, less noticeable colour differences or an overall improvement in how the scar blends with your skin.

Sometimes the most meaningful change is simply looking in the mirror and noticing yourself before you notice the scar.

At Inkmed.INT, each scar revision journey is approached with patience, precision and respect for the skin’s natural healing process.
