Preparing for Your Inkmed.INT Consultation
Your consultation is the first step in understanding your skin, your concerns and what you would like to achieve. A little preparation can help you get the most from your appointment.
Your consultation is about understanding you.
No two scars, skin concerns or treatment journeys are exactly the same. Your consultation gives us the opportunity to understand your individual concerns, assess the area and discuss what you would like to improve.
You do not need to know which treatment you need before your appointment. That is part of what the consultation is designed to explore.
You don’t need to arrive with all the answers. Simply come prepared to tell us about your concern, your history and what you hope to achieve. We’ll take it from there.
Before Your Appointment
Think About Your Concern
Consider what you would most like to discuss or improve. You don’t need to know the treatment — just tell us what is concerning you.
Know Your History
Be ready to share relevant information about previous procedures, surgery, injuries, treatments and how the area has healed.
Bring Helpful Information
If relevant, bring photographs, treatment information or details relating to previous procedures that may help us understand your journey.
Consider Your Goals
Think about what improvement would mean to you and what you hope to achieve through treatment.
Write Down Your Questions
There is no such thing as a silly question. Making a small list beforehand can help you remember everything you would like to discuss.
Come As You Are
The consultation is an assessment and conversation. Treatment-specific preparation will be discussed with you if it becomes relevant to your treatment plan.
How to Get the Most From Your Consultation
The more we understand about your concern and your journey, the more useful your consultation can be.
Think About What You’d Like to Discuss
You may be coming to Inkmed.INT because of a scar, changes in pigmentation, the appearance or texture of your skin, or because you would like to explore one of our specialised treatments.
You don’t need to diagnose the concern yourself or decide which treatment you need. Instead, think about what you notice and what you would most like to improve.
- What concerns you about the area?
- How long has it been present?
- Has it changed over time?
- What would you like to improve?
Be Ready to Share Relevant History
Understanding how the skin reached its current condition can be an important part of assessing which approach may be suitable.
Depending on your reason for visiting, we may discuss previous surgery, injuries, treatments or procedures, as well as how the area healed.
- Previous surgery or procedures
- Previous treatments to the area
- How the area originally healed
- Relevant skin sensitivities or allergies
- Relevant medication or medical information
- Previous reactions or complications
Bring Information That May Help
You don’t need to arrive with a folder full of paperwork. However, certain information can be useful when it relates directly to the area you would like assessed.
For example, photographs showing how a scar or skin concern has changed over time may provide useful context. If your concern relates to surgery or another procedure, knowing approximately when it took place can also help.
- Photos showing previous stages
- Approximate dates of procedures
- Details of previous treatments
- Relevant information from your practitioner
Think About What Improvement Means to You
Your goals are an important part of the consultation. Treatment is not only about what can technically be done — it is also about understanding what matters most to you.
For one person, improvement may mean softening the appearance of a scar. For another, it may mean improving texture or reducing the contrast between an area and the surrounding skin.
Discussing your expectations openly allows us to talk about what may realistically be achievable and what type of journey may be involved.
Bring Your Questions
Your consultation is also your opportunity to understand the process. If something is important to you, write it down before your appointment so that you don’t forget to ask.
Questions You May Want to Discuss
Your questions will depend on your individual concern, but these can be useful starting points.
You Don’t Need to Know Which Treatment You Need
It is completely fine to arrive knowing only that there is something you would like us to look at.
Part of the purpose of your consultation is to assess the area, understand your goals and discuss which options may be appropriate for your individual skin and concern.
Your treatment journey should begin with understanding — not guesswork.
During Your Consultation
Every consultation is individual, but the process is centred around understanding your concern and deciding on the most appropriate next step.
After Your Consultation
Once we have assessed your concern and discussed your goals, we can explain the next steps that may be appropriate for you.
Preparation can differ depending on the treatment being considered. If you receive specific instructions before your appointment or treatment, those instructions should take priority over general information on this page.
Your Consultation Is Where the Journey Begins
Every person, every scar and every skin concern has its own story. Your consultation gives us the opportunity to understand yours and explore a treatment approach with care, patience and realistic expectations.
